Despite the title of this weblog containing an intriguingly possible punk band name, I'm here to talk about post apocolyptic media. In books, movies, tv, and the pictures in my head. This is one of my favorites. It can deal with anything from an alternate history, to a torn wasteland in the distant future. A good example is H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine". I'm sure you've heard of it, but let's brush up on our industrial revolution era fiction. The Time Machine is set in several settings, the first and base setting is late 19th century London (the authors contemporary period). The rest of the scenes take place in different time periods all the way to the end of the world. I don't want to give the book away (or ramble on ;) ), but I will tell you that the world ends being swallowed by an expanding sun. Don't worry, all people are gone by this point and the only life left on the planet is algae.
I'm sure you're wondering what the title Robots and Ragdolls has to do with anything. If you've seen the ridiculous previews for the upcoming movie 9, you may have an idea. I say ridiculous previews because the trailer looks like it was made by a 7th grader, or a Youtube flunkie. It's hard for me to explain why it's so bad. I guess if you took the "In a world where..." joke and applied it in a real world scenario, you'd get this trailer. Needless to say, I won't be seeing it unless someone begs me to go with them.
Now onto some of the more finer moments in post-apocolyptica. I think one the best examples in the genre is a book written in the sixties called "Alas, Babylon". Set in the cold war era, this book asks "what if the Soviets fired first?" I consider this book one of my favorites, although I haven't finished it. I borrowed it from my 8th grade teacher six years ago and for some reason, I've never finished it. It's the only book that I can say that about. In movies, my favorite is V for Vendetta. Generally, people see this movie as dystopic (which is comes in a very close second in my list of favorite genres), but for the United States in the movie, it's a different story.
Anyway, I'm done. Share some of your favorites with me. Tell me about some stuff I've never heard of!
